This article only applies to paywalled papers. For all free or open-access papers, you will be able to access them without needing a library account from your affiliated institution. Using institutional access will allow you to have access to all the journals that your institution is subscribed to. Here, we will be using the institution, “University of British Columbia”, as an example. If your institution has 2-Factor Authentication implemented, please check out our FAQ guide on it here. If you are looking for the Read Web version of this FAQ article, click here.
There are two accounts that you use to get the most out of Read by QxMD:
- QxMD account - you use this to login to Read by QxMD to get personalized content, access to latest medical research, and more!
- Library account - this is what we use behind the scenes to help you get access to your library’s online resources and journal subscriptions. If you can’t login to your library account, please contact your librarian.
Android Version
The mobile version of Read logs you into your library account automatically each time you want to access a paywalled paper. You will only ever have to do this step once to get seamless access to all the paywalled articles that your library subscribes to!
- From the homepage, click on the Account Settings icon at the top-left corner.
- On the Account Settings page, select Institutional Access.
- Click on the Add (+) icon at the bottom-right.
- A list of institutions should appear. Search for your institution and select it. In this case we will be using the “University of British Columbia” as our example institution.
- Select your login preference.
- In this case it would be Automatic Login Using CWL.
- Enter the credentials you use to access your institution's library (library login).
- Click the Check icon.
-
You will be prompted to select an option. Select Save and Log In in order to login to your institution. Congratulations, you're all set! This option can also be used to make sure your credentials are working properly as it will let you know if the login succeeded or not right away. If you do not want to login yet, you can also choose the "Just Save, Don't Log In" option. This will store the password you entered, and will login you in when you click on an article you want to read.
Note: If you’re having trouble logging into your library, please contact your library directly as we do not have the authorization to help manage your library account information.
