Topic Editor is a feature that is only accessible to those who have joined the Curators Program. In order to have access to Topic Editor, you must have provided the email address associated with your Read account when accepting the Curator role.
Once you have confirmed the topic you will be leading, you can start making changes to the Read Topics right away.
- Head over to the Topic Editor website (https://readbyqxmd.com/cgi-bin/index.pl) and login using your Read account. Please make sure you have spoken with the QxMD team to have this feature activated for your account.
- In the search bar, type in the name of the topic you would like to focus on to check if an entry already exists.
- If the topic you search for is already listed in Read, you will be able to see articles in Read that are related to the topic and the number of topics and subtopics that have already been created.
- You can see the what papers are listed in each topic and subtopic in more detail.
Making Changes To A Topic That Already Exists:
Below each topic you will see options to: rename topic, add paper, add tag, or delete topic. Please make sure to click save changes to keep any changes made.
- Rename Topic: When renaming a topic you must make sure you follow the format "Topic: Descriptor". In the example below: Topic = Membranous nephropathy, Descriptor = Treatment.
- Add Paper: You can add papers to topics by entering the PMID of the article. You can find the PMID of any article at the bottom of the article's PubMed page, in the URL of the Read Web page, and right below the title of an article on Read Mobile.
- Add Tag: You can add multiple "tags" to a topic. Tags are words that are related to the topic. When a user searches for a word in Read that is listed as a tag, it will direct them to the topic.
Creating a New Topic:
When creating a new topic, you must always make sure you follow the format "Topic: Descriptor". (Example provided above in Step #1 - Rename Topic) Please make sure the topic does not exist by searching for it beforehand.
- Select the option "Add a Topic".
- Fill in the mandatory spaces. If a specialty, heading, or subheading does not exist, please reach out to Viren Kaul, the Curator Program Project Lead about adding it manually to the Topic database. (ie. Specialty>Heading>Subheading = Oncology>Radiation Therapy>Techniques)
- Topic Name
- Specialty 1
- Heading 1
- Subheading 1
- Press "Add this topic" to save changes.
